Ultimate Tag Warrior: Fin. The End

Okay! This is the last version of Ultimate Tag Warrior. The state-of-the-edge version of WordPress includes tagging, so duplicating functionality in this plugin seems kinda dumb.

But fear not! Just as soon as I finish writing this blog entry (and, uh, making a new wordpress theme for my site.. it’s about time I had a new one (: ); I’m going to see about making some sort of UTW:Render plugin that will display tags from wordpress in much the same way as they were displayed using UTW.

In any case, there’s a final update that can be downloaded from here, which has a few fixes for search and such.

Interesting Times, I suppose

Blink Kitty

That’s a picture of a cat that got hit by a car this week; taken with a camera which was stolen when I was burgled a few weeks back. There comes a point where you stop being too attached to the things that you have; because you start expecting them to vanish.

On the upside, I guess, I do have a shiny matte black MacBook. Whee. Not to mention sweet-kitties sister. Who seems to be trying to fill the gap that he left behind.

Fneh.

My compy at home died ): I’m not too sure when I’m going to have it working again, or indeed, how much of my stuff I’ll be able to get back. This is deeply irritating.

Monetizing My WordPress Blog

I’m going to give advertisements through Project Wonderful a shot, to see if they’re more useful to me than adsense (Adsense works pretty well – it covers the cost of hosting; but it’s not as good as it could be from a CPM point of view).

Project Wonderful has a nifty name, which is something I like in things; but I think the way you buy ads is interesting – you pay by the day, in auctions: The person who has the highest bid gets their ad displayed. There’s more about how it works here.

At the moment, I’ve put five slots on the main Ultimate Tag Warrior page to see what happens; since that’s where most of the traffic goes (:

p.s. there will be a release of next generation UTW sometime soon…

The Forums

I’m looking at getting the forums back online at the moment; so, uh, if anything odd happens, that’s why!

I’m moving away from phorum to use vanilla, instead; so there is a bit of datawrangling that needs to take place, including making new users (;

New forums are there! [although the caveat of creating new users still applies. If you were a registered user at the old forum, you can request a password change by going to the password request form thinger] Looks like I have all of the old data, and it even seems to be in a sensible form. Truely, this is a wonderful thing.

Where did all this stuff come from?

I’m moving house tomorrow and Friday. Hoorah.

An important consequence of this, is that I will be living with my computer again.

An important consequence of this, is that I’ll be a lot more able to look at wordpress stuff. I, uh, have a big pile of email to deal with once I’m settled.

I’m not sure how I managed to accumulate quite so much stuff, though…

Ultimate Tag Warrior 3.141592

Another bug-fix release (:

– Tag feeds are working properly again (: Hopefully.. Depending on the version of wordpress you’re using.. (:
– There are a couple of performance tweaks: There’s a lot less javascript being downloaded most of the time (but with one javascript include for each post if you’re using the magical ajaxy format.. it seems like a worthy compromise!); and if you have a post with no tags, it will be added to the magical cache the first time it’s hit (previously it wasn’t, so there was a tag lookup for each request to a non-tagged page)
– The default category is now being included, if you are using automagic conversion of categories to tags.
– I think that’s it (:

A Vacation of Sorts

I’m heading off to Hastings for the weekend with the lovely and charming David; and a bunch of capoeira people (who are also lovely and charming). The blossom festival is happening, and there’s going to be a capoeira performance and some wandering along in the parade.

Exciting stuff that (:

So yes. I don’t expect to see a computer until I return some time on Sunday; so you won’t hear anything from me before then.
