Tag Managing Thing

There’s another Thing for wordpress!

Tag Managing Thing! [Tag Managing Thing Download]

Tag Managing Thing is pretty sweet. It adds a new window to the WordPress admin system which allows you to modify tags (and categories! (and things in any other post-based taxonomies you acquire through other plugins… Oooh! Exciting)).

Tags Terms can have their name and slug changed; and can be deleted. Two pedestrian, but none the less useful bits of functionality.

It’s also possible to split an existing term into a number of new terms; and you can merge existing terms into a single term. Two much more interesting things to be able to do.

Ooh, and this is my favourite. You can change the taxonomy that a term belongs to. Which is to say, you can turn a tag into a category or a category into a tag. (And if you have additional taxonomies for post objects, you can also move terms into and out of those taxonomies as well.)

I think it’s pretty neat.

Ultimate Tag Warrior Bugfix Release

Item the first: If you’re getting 404 errors on your tag pages, try going to the Options > Permalinks page in wp-admin, and click the Update Permalinks button.

Item the second: There’s a bugfix release of UTW. Download Here! It should deal with the problem that contact form plugin thingy people were having – go to the Options > Tags page, and resave your options; then all should be good in the world.

Item the third: I’m looking for beta testers for taggish plugins I’m putting together for WordPress 2.3. If you’d like to beta test, and are using WordPress 2.3, send an email to beta [at] neato [dot] co [dot] nz.

Fabulous.

Pumpkin Soup

Soup+Bacon

It’s cold! And I don’t like it.

I made soup, yesterday! It’s marvellous. Tonight, I had it was bacon instead of toast (and added a splash of cream). I highly recommend it. Anywho, a recipe!

I did a pile of chopping, then a pile of cooking. I’m pretty sure the two can overlap; but not entirely.

I had 1 leek, 1 bulb of fennel, and three red onions chopped into slices; 1 red capsicum diced relatively finely; half of a pumpkin chopped into 1-2″ chunks*; about 8 medium-small potatoes, quartered and a half dozen slices of bacon roughly chopped up.

Bacon goes into a pot first, and is cooked until browned; then the capsicum is added and cooked until it softens up; then the leek/fennel/red onions join in. Once those have cooked down (uh, they 2/3 filled the pot when I added them, and when they were down to about 1/3 I continued onwards..); add the pumpkin and potatoes, and add enough water to just cover the potatoes/pumpkin.

Cook it until the potatoes and pumpkin are cooked; then point a stick blender at it until it’s smoooothish.

Yuhm.

*I peeled the first half of the pumpkin with much suffering; and cut the other half into chunks and roasted it in a 200°C oven until the pumpkin was just starting to soften up. It made the skin vastly easier to get off; and probably helped make the soup tastier. Next time, I’d roast all of the pumpkin to avoid the pumpkin peeling.
