Ultimate Tag Warrior 1.1

I’ve just released Ultimate Tag Warrior 1.1 into the wild! From here on (and indeed since last week), the latest version of Ultimate Tag Warrior is going to live here: http://dev.wp-plugins.org/browser/ultimate-tag-warrior/trunk/. I’ll keep on announcing new versions of it here, though.

Version 1.1 adds ultimate_show_related_tags(), which will display the tags related to the current tag set. If you are viewing /tag/monkey, it will list all of the tags of the posts that match monkey (except for monkey itself.) If you are viewing /tag/monkey+banana it will list all of the tags of the posts that match both monkey and banana (excluding the monkey and banana tags). Clicking the + beside a tag will add it to the tag set.

Dan made me write this suggested this feature.

  1. I actually had to go back to version 1.0 because it was breaking commenting.

You might want to check it out.

The problem I was getting was, after I submit a comment or delete a comment I was greeted with the white screen of death. The comment did post or deleted.

  2. (This works okay for me; but if anyone else sees this happen, it’d be awesome if you could let me know. Thanks!)

  3. is it possible to write tags to tagwarrior from within ecto?
right now its just possible to post to del.icio.us …
    any ideas?

  4. First I want to thank you.

I created a Dev site and copied everything over from my original site.

I have deactivated all plugins, switched themes, updated my permalinks, reinstalled and just about everything else I could think of.

    Could you check it out.

  5. Sewerson,

I haven’t looked at ecto before; so I’m not too sure. Once I’ve got the problems Dan has sorted out, I’ll have a closer look and see what I can find (:

  6. Could you check to see if it might be one of the plugins you are using with this? Maybe shut off all the plugins you have, then test it. ???
    This is just so weird.

  7. Is there a way to make it so that the first letter of the tag is not automatically capitalized?

  8. I found if you rename a tag to a tag name that already exists it creates two. Forexmple if I change apple to orange and orange already exists I will have to. Not that big of a deal but the “lazy” tagging I think will help with this too.

  9. Yep!

(Most of the display things will only display duplicate tags once, though.. but it’s not something I tested for the related tags thing. Writing a “consolidate tags” thing is on my todo list.. right after the thinger, the whatser, and the binger (: )

  10. This is an incredible plugin, Christine, cheers!

I’m having a couple of problems. The first is the issue Jenna was experiencing where clicking a tag in a tag cloud sends me to the 404 error.

This is what’s in my .htaccess file:
    RewriteRule ^tag/?(.*) /index.php?tag=$1 [QSA,L]
    RewriteRule ^tags/?(.*) /index.php?tag=$1 [QSA,L]

No dice. The second issue is more of a question; how do I insert a tag with more than one word? The tag input is seperated with spaces, so is there a character I can use to join two words (or more) as one tag?

  11. “Is there a way to make it so that the first letter of the tag is not automatically capitalized?” – Jenna

Jenna, I haven’t seen forced capitalization on the tags. It could be a rule in your stylesheet, maybe. Check for text-transform: capitalize; in your css.

  12. Cliff,

I’m not too sure about the 404 problem ): Does clicking on tags work if you click on the tags for a post, or anywhere else; or is it just the tag cloud that is giving you problems?

Ooh! And does going to /index.php?tag={some tag} give you a 404?

As for spaces in tags; it’s on my todo list (: The convention seems to be to runwordstogether; But if you use underscores in the meantime, when I write the spaces-in-tags bit, I’ll use magic to turn the underscores into spaces (Okay, it’s not really magic; it’s just programming).

  13. Non of the tag links are working. I get beautiful results if I manually type in /index.php?tag=tagname, but /tag/tagname returns a Not Found.

Awesome, great idea, I’ll use underscores. Keep workin’ the magic, I can’t wait for the next version. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Hmm. Definately sounds like a .htaccess thing, then.

Would you be able to check if there is anything else in your .htaccess that is matching /tag or /tags

    (Oooh.. does /tags/{sometag} work?)

  15. Jenna, I see it now, I viewed the source and all of the tags are capitalized (must be my theme that threw me off, oops). Yeah, it would be great to have the option to turn those caps off, but I have no problem using text-transform: lowercase; on those in the meantime.

  16. Would you be able to check if there is anything else in your .htaccess that is matching /tag or /tags
    – Christine

No, just the two I posted above.

    (‘tags/tagname’ plural doesn’t work either)

  17. Hmm.

Rewrite rules could be written in Swahili, as far as I can tell, so this may be a case of the blind leading the blind… (:

    if you add
    RewriteRule ^bananas/?(.*) /index.php?tag=$1 [QSA,L]

and then go to /bananas/{sometag} does that work?

How about the various /archive urls?

(I’m off to bed now; so I’ll be dropping off the face of the internet for a while.. if anyone else has any ideas, fire away (: )

  18. I think I just found… something.

The permalink structure for the blog I’m working with is:

    /%category%/%postname%/

I changed the permalink structure to read like the following, and now it works!…

    /%year%/%category%/%postname%/

Soooo… I guess the year is required to head up the structure for it to work properly. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Cliff,

    That wouldn’t be the first time that it took something from the twilight zone to get this plugin to work (;

  20. Got that right.

Christine: Is there a way to get this plugin to integrate with Ultimate in the post admin. Or maybe take the features and integrate it into your next release. Expecially since it communicates with Technorati tags.

Currently I would have to tag each post twice, which isn’t that bad since it is a copy paste but it would be nice.

    Thanks again.

  21. Hi Dan,

If you want it to do the technorati tags thing; you can call ultimate_show_post_tags($separator=โ€ โ€, $baseurl=โ€™http://www.technorati.com/tag/โ€™)

I’ll have to have a closer look at what else bunny tags does before I make any promises (:
